Small Objects . . . Big Stories
TITLE: PBS Utah and the Utah Cultural Celebration Center invite artists, collectors, and community members to submit a cherished object with a story for exhibition in the Bridge Gallery. This exhibition seeks to discover meaning beyond the everyday, ordinary objects selected for display and explore the deeper interconnectedness between them based upon the universal themes found in the stories that give them life.
In connection with our January 21 Shared Stories event, The Soul of Things, this exhibit celebrates the memories, meaning, and universal themes that make ordinary objects extraordinary. Inspired by Antiques Roadshow’s visit to Salt Lake City, guests will get a behind-the-scenes look at the episodes, meet a popular appraiser, and one lucky collector filmed for the show. As Antiques Roadshow reminds us, it’s the story an object holds that makes it special.
WHO: This CFE is open to anyone who has an object and associated story they’d like to share publicly.
WHAT: Submissions are limited to a single object, or series of smaller objects that go together in a “collection” no larger than one of two sizes: 28x13x22 (LxWxH) or 17x17x22 (LxWxH). *NOTE: most objects selected will be much smaller than these measurements. A written story should accompany the object that explains its significance or meaning to the owner (200 words maximum).
