Summer solstice is upon us and that means that the first half of the year is already over! Whew, time flies when you're celebrating! We've had time over the last few weeks to look back on some of our events from the first half of the year, including our second installment of the Utah Travels exhibition, University-Diversity Mashup, the popular Muslim Journeys Film Series, and our newest annual festival theMix.  As exciting a first half of the year as it was, the second half of the year has us even more excited!  We're pleased to offer a little something for everyone with diverse concerts art exhibits, a festival, conference, and the winter market. Here's a sampling of what we have prepared for you for the rest of 2014:

WorldStage! Summer Concert Series

Coming up this summer is our 9th edition of the WorldStage! Summer Concert Series.  This year's series features a little something for everyone from symphonic music to jazz, soul, r&b, gospel, and ethnic music and dance. Beginning on July 7, the concerts will continue throughout the months of July and August.  To see a complete listing of the bands that will be on hand to perform, as well as their bios, click here.

The Face of Utah Sculpture Exhibition

Celebrating 10 years, this exhibit showcasing Utah sculptors has become a staple here at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center. The exhibit's original creation came from the mind of local artist and glass sculptor, Dan Cummings.  From the beginning, the show is designed to feature both well-known and emerging Utah sculptors, showcasing both traditional and contemporary Sculpture in a variety of techniques, styles, mediums and forms.   This is one of our most popular art exhibitions, and will delight you with its exciting and eclectic mix of excellence in artistry!

The exhibit opens on July 10 with a reception giving you the chance to meet some of the artists, as well as check out their fantastic work.  The reception runs from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

The exhibit runs from July 10 - August 27 in the Celebration Gallery.  Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. or by arrangement.  To make arrangements to see the show after hours, or to schedule a guided tour, contact Michael Christensen by phone at 801-965-5108, or via email here.

Stay tuned to our Exhibitions page for more information about the exhibit.

Journey Stories and Nation of Immigrants Exhibitions

Picture
We are excited to continue bringing to Utah, nationally recognized exhibits by the Smithsonian Institution's Museum on Main Street program.  In the past we have brought you Smithsonian exhibits like Key Ingredients: America by Food, and Exit Saigon, Enter Little Saigon.  Journey Stories is no less a fantastic exhibition from what we like to call "America's museum."

Here's a brief synopsis of the exhibit:
Americans are intensely mobile. Our transportation history is more than technology; innovations were inspired the human drive for mobility. Journey Stories explores accounts of immigrants coming in search of promise in a new country; stories of individuals and families relocating in search of a new future; the harrowing journeys of Africans and Native Americans forced to move; and, of course, fun and frolic on the open road.

The exhibit runs from September 13 - October 24 in the Celebration Gallery.

Other Events This Fall and Winter

That's not all, we have more coming your way this fall and winter.  A sampling of events coming up are West Valley City's Women in Motion Conference, Day of the Dead Celebration and Altar, 2014 Winter Art Market, Trees of Diversity exhibit, and our WorldStage! Winter Concert Series.  More information on these events will be coming in the following months.

This year promises to be our best and most diverse yet.  We're excited to showcase these for your and your family's education and entertainment.  We hope that you will COME JOIN THE CELEBRATION!
